Energy Monitoring & Control

Professional,  real-time solar photovoltaic monitoring and control from a Raspberry Pi

Monitor online: Inverters, Chargers, Pylontech, Voltacon Batteries & SmartShunt

Orange Pi device is fully loaded with the software and assembled in a plastic enclosure. The license fee is included in the price and there is no annual fee or renewal. There is also a special RJ45 to USB cable that is compatible with the Voltacon inverters.

In this package, we included everything you need to start collecting data and monitoring your system remotely. The graphs are easy to read and understood without requiring special mathematical knowledge.

Content of :

  • Orange Pi LTS Controller, pre-loaded with solar assistant
  • Power supply USB C type 5V (check options A and B)
  • Inverter communication cable
  • All you need now is to create an account online, instructions included.

Extras:

For monitoring multiple inverters,  an extra RJ to USB converter cable is required.

For monitoring Pylontech and Pytes batteries, please add this cable to the basket.

Product Features

This new board from Raspberry Pi has the option for HDMI screen output with a powerful fast response and interactive experience. It is capable of monitoring in real-time multiple solar inverters.

  • 1.8Ghz Quad-core 64-bit processor
  • 2GB SDRAM
  • 8GB eMMC onboard storage
  • 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz WiFi
  • 1Gbps Ethernet
  • 3x USB ports
  • HDMI output

9-60V DC USB power supply (Option A)

Power your monitoring device directly from your battery. It allows uninterrupted monitoring even if the inverter transfers into fault mode or disconnects AC output due to reaching low battery cutoff.

  • Suitable for 12V, 24V and 48V batteries
  • 9-60V DC input via ring connector (10mm diameter)
  • 5V 3A USB type C output
  • Length: 2.5m

Official Raspberry PI power supply (Option B)

A high quality power supply is important for stable 24/7/365 operation as voltage dips can cause USB errors. This power supply includes four interchangeable mains adaptors for Europe/South Africa, UK, Australia and United States.

USB-Serial RS232 Communication Cable

USB cable to connect Voltacon inverters to SolarAssistant via the RS232 port is included in the package. The package is delivered with 1 cable, if there is more than one inverter in parallel, please add extra cables here

For monitoring the BMS of Pylontech batteries you need to purchase the following cable. The cable is connected to the console port of the battery (US2000C, US3000C, US5000)

Communication port of solar inverter

All our off-grid and hybrid inverters are equipped with a serial communication port, the new version of the serial communication port is actually an ethernet-type RJ45 port. It can be recognized by the name: COM. The older inverter has the old style RS232 port.

Each inverter box contains the new RS2R2 to RJ45 cable for programming, this cable is in grey colour. Keep it safe !

It works with Smart Shunt Resistors from Victron

For a more accurate current and DC voltage measurement, the smart shunt resistor is the right device that can be calculate precisely the total Amps and Volts of the battery system. Solar assistant is compatible with all smart shunts 500mA, 1000mA , all it is required is a VE.Direct to USB cable. The setup is literally plug-and-play, no further programming is required

This is what the dashboard looks like. We capture some of the most important graphs
