Are Monocrystalline Panels The Best Choice?

Monocrystalline cells have a distinctive deep black colour and they are more efficient compared to the polycrystalline panels. A quality mono panel has a typical efficiency between 20% and 22% versus 15% for polycrystalline solar cells. Monocrystalline panels have also better aesthetics and sleek design. The cells are cut from a cylindrical silicon ingot.

• The monocrystalline panel in a standard 108-cell frame produces 400W
• For a 5kW system, we need only 10-12 monocrystalline panels 420Watt
• Monocrystalline panels handle the heat better, which means they lose less power as the ambient temperature rises.

With a temperature coefficient of 0.04%/K, if it is 20^oC hotter on the roof compared to standard test conditions, mono-panels will lose only 0.06 Ams out of rated 8Amps. The poly-silicon cells will loos 0.051%/K that is 0.08Amps. The loss is negligible between the two technologies. 

Finally, the monocrystalline panels behave better in less than perfect lighting conditions. Using micro-inverter and Tigo optimisers you can eliminate shadowing effect and increase the performance of your solar panels.
