Description
xVictron Inverter 24/1600 230V VE.Direct UK
The Victron Inverter 24/1600 converts power from a 24 V battery bank into 230 V 50 Hz AC through a built-in UK (BS 1363) socket. It delivers 1,450 W continuous at 25 °C and up to 2,100 W peak. It suits vehicle, marine and off-grid systems that need mains-voltage AC from a 24 V battery. A VE.Direct port allows configuration and monitoring.
Key Features
- 1,450 W continuous output at 25 °C and 1,300 W at 40 °C, with a 2,100 W peak rating for motor and compressor start-up loads.
- Built-in UK BS 1363 outlet socket, so standard UK plugs connect directly to the inverter.
- Eco mode cuts no-load consumption from 14 W to 2 W. The search interval is 2.5 s and the stop/start power level can be adjusted.
- Dynamic low DC shutdown, with a fixed low-voltage shutdown at 18.6 V and an alarm and restart threshold of 21.8 V.
- The VE.Direct communication port allows full programming and monitoring.
- Two-pole screw terminal for remote on/off control.
- Protected against output short circuit, overload, high and low battery voltage, over temperature and excessive DC ripple.
- Rated for operation from -40 °C to +65 °C and up to 95 % humidity.
- ECE R10-4 automotive directive approval, which is relevant for vehicle installations.
Product Overview
The inverter accepts a DC input from 18.4 V to 34 V, which covers the normal operating window of a 24 V lead-acid or lithium battery bank. Continuous output depends on temperature. You get 1,450 W at 25 °C, falling to 1,300 W at 40 °C. Size the system to the 40 °C figure if the unit will be mounted in a warm engine bay, locker or plant room.
Idle consumption matters on small off-grid and mobile systems. At 14 W, the inverter would draw around 336 Wh a day from the battery with nothing connected. In eco mode it sends a short test pulse every 2.5 s and only switches fully on when it detects a load above the set threshold. This brings idle draw down to 2 W. Set the threshold carefully so that small loads such as phone chargers still wake the inverter.
Dynamic low DC shutdown adjusts the shutdown point to the load. Under heavy current the battery voltage sags, and a fixed cut-off can trip too early. The 28 V battery charged detection voltage and other thresholds can be changed over VE.Direct, so you can match the inverter to the battery chemistry in use. Maximum efficiency is 91 %.

Applications
- Trucks, coaches and service vehicles with 24 V electrical systems that need 230 V AC for tools or appliances.
- Boats and yachts with 24 V house banks that need a UK socket on board.
- Small off-grid cabins and workshops running from a 24 V solar-charged battery bank.
- Remote telecoms, monitoring or security equipment that needs 230 V AC from batteries.
- Expedition and overland vehicles that run in very cold conditions, as the unit operates down to -40 °C.
Installation Notes
This inverter needs a 24 V nominal battery bank and must not be connected to a 12 V or 48 V system. The battery terminals accept cable up to 25 mm² (4 AWG). Use cable and DC fusing rated for the full input current, and keep the cable runs short to limit voltage drop. The IP21 enclosure is for dry, indoor or sheltered locations, and it needs clear ventilation space around it. Use VE.Direct to set the low-voltage thresholds to suit the battery chemistry before putting the inverter into service. We recommend installation by a qualified electrician. Use an MCS-accredited installer where the system includes solar PV or connects to a generator.
