Description
xVictron Inverter 48/1600 230V VE.Direct IEC
The Victron Inverter 48/1600 converts a 48 V battery supply into 230 V, 50 Hz AC. It delivers 1,450 W continuous at 25 °C and 2,100 W peak, with an IEC-320 output socket. It is aimed at installers building 48 V battery systems for cabins, vehicles, marine and remote sites that need a modest 230 V supply.
Key Features
- Continuous output of 1,450 W at 25 °C and 1,300 W at 40 °C, with a 2,100 W peak rating for motor and inrush loads.
- ECO mode cuts zero load consumption from 15 W to 3 W, with a 2.5 second load search interval and an adjustable stop/start power setting.
- Dynamic low DC shutdown is supported, alongside a fixed low shutdown at 37.2 V and a low restart and alarm level of 43.6 V.
- VE.Direct communication port for configuration and monitoring, and the unit is fully programmable.
- Two pole remote on/off screw terminal for connection to an external switch or battery management control.
- Protection against output short circuit, overload, high and low battery voltage, over temperature and excessive DC ripple.
- Rated operating temperature range of -40 °C to 65 °C, with humidity up to 95 %.
- IEC-320 AC outlet with a male plug included for making up the output connection.
Product Overview
The inverter accepts a DC input from 36.8 V to 62 V, which covers the normal working window of a 48 V battery bank. Continuous output falls as ambient temperature rises: 1,450 W at 25 °C drops to 1,300 W at 40 °C. Size the inverter against the warmest conditions the installation will see, not the headline figure. Maximum efficiency is 92 %.
No-load draw matters on small battery systems. At 15 W in normal mode the inverter would use around 360 Wh a day doing nothing. In ECO mode it drops to 3 W and checks for a load every 2.5 seconds, switching on fully once demand passes the set threshold. The threshold can be adjusted to suit appliances with low standby draw.
The low voltage settings protect the battery from deep discharge. The inverter shuts down at 37.2 V and gives an alarm and restart point at 43.6 V. Battery charged detection is set at 56 V. Through the VE.Direct port these settings can be changed to match the battery chemistry and the manufacturer's limits. The remote on/off terminal lets a BMS or switch disable the output without breaking the DC supply.

Applications
- 230 V supply from a 48 V battery bank in off-grid cabins, workshops and outbuildings.
- Vehicle and motorhome installations with a 48 V house battery. The unit carries ECE R10-4 automotive approval.
- Marine systems running small 230 V loads such as chargers, lighting and galley appliances from a 48 V bank.
- Remote monitoring, telecoms and security sites where low standby draw in ECO mode extends battery autonomy.
- Unheated or outdoor enclosures, within the -40 °C to 65 °C operating range and the IP21 rating.
What Is Included
- Victron Inverter 48/1600 230V VE.Direct IEC (PIN482161100).
- IEC-320 male plug for the AC output connection.
Installation Notes
This inverter needs a 48 V nominal battery system and must not be connected to 12 V or 24 V banks. The battery terminals take cable up to 25 mm² (4 AWG). Size DC cabling and fusing for the continuous and peak current at 48 V, and set the low voltage thresholds through VE.Direct to suit the battery chemistry in use. The enclosure is rated IP21, so mount it indoors or in a dry, ventilated space. Allow for the reduced output at higher ambient temperatures. Battery and 230 V AC connections should be made by a qualified electrician. Any work tied into solar PV or a property's fixed wiring should be carried out by a qualified or MCS-accredited installer.
