Description
x800W Plug-In Solar Kit with Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB Dual MPPT & 2x JA Solar 465W Panels
Start generating your own solar electricity with this compact 800W plug-in solar kit combining two premium JA Solar 465W full-black panels with the Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB 800W dual MPPT microinverter.
The two JA Solar panels provide a combined installed solar capacity of 930W, while the Hoymiles microinverter delivers up to 800VA of 230V AC power for use within your property.
The system deliberately uses more solar-panel capacity than the rated AC output of the inverter. In real UK conditions, solar panels rarely operate continuously at their laboratory-rated maximum. The additional PV capacity helps the system reach its full 800W output more frequently during cloudy weather, mornings, evenings and periods of lower solar irradiation.
Dual MPPT - One Solar Panel Per Input
The main advantage of the Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB is its two completely independent MPPT inputs.
Each JA Solar 465W panel connects directly to its own MPPT input, allowing the microinverter to optimise each solar panel independently.
- 2 independent MPPT trackers
- 1 solar panel connected to each MPPT
- Individual optimisation of both JA Solar panels
- Better performance where one panel experiences partial shade
- Suitable for panels installed at different orientations or angles
- One panel does not restrict the MPPT tracking of the second panel
This makes the HMS-800-2WB particularly suitable for garden, balcony, garage, outbuilding and small residential solar installations where the two panels may not receive exactly the same amount of sunlight throughout the day.

Why Use 930W of Solar Panels with an 800W Inverter?
Solar-panel power ratings are measured under Standard Test Conditions in a laboratory. Actual solar generation changes continuously depending on cloud cover, temperature, panel orientation, shading, time of day and the angle of the sun.
For this reason, this kit deliberately combines 930W of solar-panel capacity with an 800W microinverter.
The additional solar-panel capacity helps compensate for normal environmental and system losses, allowing the microinverter to operate closer to its maximum output for longer periods throughout the day.
During particularly strong sunlight, if the panels are capable of supplying more power than the microinverter can convert, the HMS-800-2WB simply limits its AC output to its rated maximum.
Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB Dual MPPT Microinverter
The Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB is an 800VA single-phase microinverter designed specifically for two-panel residential solar systems.
Unlike a single-MPPT inverter where multiple solar panels operate through the same tracker, the HMS-800-2WB provides two independent MPPT channels.
Each JA Solar panel therefore operates independently, allowing the inverter to continuously find the optimum voltage and current operating point for each module.
The inverter provides an MPPT voltage range of 16V to 60V, with a maximum DC input voltage of 65V and maximum operating input current of 14A per input.
Built-In Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Monitoring
The HMS-800-2WB includes built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication, allowing the microinverter to communicate directly with the Hoymiles monitoring platform without requiring a separate DTU gateway.
Using the S-Miles Home app, you can monitor solar generation and system performance from a compatible smartphone.
Designed for Outdoor Installation
The microinverter is housed in an IP67-rated enclosure designed for outdoor solar installations. Cooling is provided through natural convection, meaning there are no cooling fans or other moving parts required for normal operation.
JA Solar 465W N-Type Full Black Panels
The kit includes two JA Solar JAM54D41-465/LR N-Type monocrystalline solar panels.
Each module produces up to 465W under Standard Test Conditions, giving the complete kit 930W of installed solar-panel capacity.
- 465W rated power per panel
- 930W combined solar capacity
- 23.3% module efficiency
- N-Type monocrystalline technology
- 108 half-cut solar cells
- Full-black appearance
- Double-glass construction
- 40.70V open-circuit voltage
- 34.02V maximum power voltage
- 13.68A maximum power current
- Dimensions: 1762 x 1134 x 30mm
- Weight: approximately 22kg per panel
The JA Solar module specifications are unchanged from the original kit.
Simple Two-Panel Wiring
The HMS-800-2WB changes the way the solar panels are connected compared with the previous single-MPPT version of this kit.
- JA Solar Panel 1 connects directly to MPPT Input 1
- JA Solar Panel 2 connects directly to MPPT Input 2
- The panels are not connected together in series
- Each panel is independently controlled by its own MPPT tracker
- The inverter converts the generated DC electricity into 230V AC
- The AC output connects through the supplied 5m cable with UK Type G plug
Why Dual MPPT Makes a Difference
Solar-panel output can vary even when two identical panels are installed next to each other.
A chimney, tree, neighbouring building, cloud or different panel orientation may cause one module to produce less power than the other.
Because the HMS-800-2WB uses two independent MPPT trackers, each panel is optimised separately. If one panel experiences temporary shading or lower solar irradiation, the second panel can continue operating at its own optimum power point.

A Smarter Two-Panel Plug-In Solar System
The combination of two high-performance JA Solar 465W modules and the Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB gives this system an important advantage over traditional single-MPPT plug-in solar kits.
Each panel works independently, each panel has its own MPPT tracker, and the inverter can adapt continuously to changing sunlight conditions across both modules.
With 930W of installed solar-panel capacity, an 800VA AC output, integrated Wi-Fi monitoring and two independent MPPT inputs, this kit provides a compact and flexible way to start generating your own solar electricity.
