Description
xVictron Inverter 24/1600 230V VE.Direct IEC
The Victron Inverter 24/1600 converts a 24 V battery supply into 230 V 50 Hz AC for off-grid and mobile systems. It delivers 1,450 W continuous at 25°C and supplies loads through an IEC-320 outlet. It suits installers fitting out vans, boats, cabins and backup systems that run on a 24 V battery bank.
Key Features
- Continuous output of 1,450 W at 25°C and 1,300 W at 40°C, with a peak rating of 2,100 W for motor and inrush loads.
- ECO mode cuts zero load consumption from 14 W to 2 W, with an adjustable stop/start power setting and a 2.5 s retry interval.
- Dynamic low DC shutdown, with a fixed low shutdown level of 18.6 V and low restart/alarm at 21.8 V.
- VE.Direct communication port for configuration and monitoring. The unit is fully programmable.
- Two pole screw terminal for remote on/off control.
- Rated for operation from -40°C to +65°C and up to 95% humidity.
- Protection against output short circuit, overload, high and low battery voltage, over temperature and excessive DC ripple.
- Approved to automotive directive ECE R10-4 for vehicle installations.
Product Overview
The inverter accepts a DC input between 18.4 V and 34 V, which covers the normal working range of a 24 V lead acid or lithium battery bank. Maximum efficiency is 91%. Output is rated at 230 V 50 Hz, matching standard UK and EU appliances.
Zero load draw matters in off-grid systems where the inverter stays on around the clock. At 14 W, an idle inverter uses over 330 Wh per day. In ECO mode this drops to 2 W: the inverter switches off its output and checks for a load every 2.5 seconds, restarting when demand exceeds the adjustable threshold. Dynamic low DC shutdown takes account of load, so a heavy draw that briefly pulls battery voltage down is less likely to cause a nuisance trip, while light loads are cut before the battery is over-discharged.
The VE.Direct port lets installers set shutdown voltages, ECO mode thresholds and other parameters, and connect the inverter to Victron monitoring equipment. Continuous output derates as ambient temperature rises, so allow for the 40°C rating in engine bays, lockers and other warm enclosures.

Applications
- Campervans, motorhomes and service vehicles running a 24 V battery system.
- Boats and narrowboats needing 230 V AC from a 24 V house bank.
- Off-grid cabins and remote sites with a 24 V solar battery system.
- Backup supply for small 230 V loads such as lighting, communications and IT equipment.
- Commercial and utility vehicles fitted with 230 V power tools or appliances.
What Is Included
- Victron Inverter 24/1600 230V VE.Direct IEC.
- IEC-320 male plug for the AC outlet.
Installation Notes
This inverter needs a 24 V battery supply and cannot be connected to a 12 V or 48 V bank. Connect the battery with cable sized for the 25 mm² screw terminals, and fit suitable DC fusing and isolation between the battery and inverter. The enclosure is rated IP21, so mount it in a dry, ventilated space away from water spray. The output is a standalone 230 V supply and must not be connected to the grid. A qualified electrician should carry out the installation, particularly where it connects to fixed AC wiring in a vehicle, vessel or building. Use an MCS-accredited installer where the system includes solar PV.
