Plug in solar became legal for domestic use in Great Britain on 27 August 2026. This kit is built around that framework: 930W of solar panel capacity behind an 800VA AC output, connected through a single fixed socket outlet, with no installer required.
Why 930W Solar Panels and not 800W ?
Running 930W of panel capacity behind an 800VA inverter is deliberate. The extra DC headroom means the system reaches its full AC output earlier in the morning, holds it later into the afternoon and performs noticeably better on overcast days, which is where most British generation actually happens.

Product Overview
Most households that want solar are blocked by the roof, the building or the tenancy. Flats, rented homes, listed properties, shaded roofs and north facing pitches all rule out a conventional installation. A plug in kit removes that barrier. The panels are mounted on a balcony, wall, fence structure, flat roof or ground frame, the micro inverter converts the DC output to mains voltage AC, and the kit connects into your existing electrical supply through a single socket outlet.
Every unit of electricity the panels produce while you are consuming power is a unit you do not buy from your supplier. Fridges, freezers, routers, standby loads, home offices, heat pumps in shoulder season and daytime appliance use are all offset directly. Anything you do not use is exported automatically, and anything you need beyond what the panels produce is drawn from the grid as normal, with no switching and no interruption.
Generation varies according to geographical location, panel direction, mounting angle, shading, weather conditions and the amount of electricity being consumed while the panels are generating. This kit is sized to make the most of a small, often imperfect space rather than to replace a full rooftop system.
Two Independent MPPT Controllers
The micro inverter contains two independent Maximum Power Point Tracking controllers. Each 465W solar panel is connected to its own MPPT input.
This module level arrangement allows each panel to operate at its own optimum voltage and current. If one panel receives less sunlight, faces a different direction or is affected by partial shading from a railing, downpipe, tree or neighbouring building, the second panel continues working independently instead of being dragged down to the weaker panel's output. On a balcony or in a garden, where shading is rarely even and orientation is rarely ideal, this is the single most useful feature in the system.
Premium JA Solar Full Black Panels
JA Solar is one of the largest and most established panel manufacturers in the world, and these are the same tier of module used on full residential rooftop installations. The two 465W panels provide a combined rated output of 930W.
The full black finish matters more than it sounds. Balcony and garden panels sit at eye level, in view of neighbours, landlords and management companies. A uniform black module with black frame and black backsheet reads as considered rather than improvised, which makes permission easier to obtain and the installation easier to live with.

Using This Kit in Great Britain
Plug in solar is now a recognised, legal route for domestic generation in England, Scotland and Wales. The rules are specific, and it is worth reading them before you order.
- No electrician required. The kit connects to an existing fixed 13A socket outlet. No consumer unit work, no Part P notification and no planning permission are needed for a compliant installation.
- Extension leads are not permitted. The kit must plug directly into a fixed socket. Extension leads, cable reels and multi way adaptors must not be used under any circumstances.
- One device per household. Only a single plug in solar device may be connected at a property.
- Notify your network operator. You must notify your Distribution Network Operator within 28 days of connection under Engineering Recommendation G98. This is a free notification and is made after installation, not before.
- No battery connection. The plug in solar rules cover solar generation only. This kit must not be connected to, or used with, a battery energy storage system.
- Savings come from reduced import. Plug in devices sit outside MCS certification and are therefore not eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee. The financial benefit comes from the electricity you no longer buy, so the more daytime consumption you have, the better the return.
- Building restrictions apply. Plug in solar must not be fitted to timber balconies, wooden fences or walls, timber clad houses, buildings with combustible cladding, or any building undergoing external wall fire remediation.

Return Policy
xWe offer a 14-day, no-quibble returns or replacement policy because we want you to be totally satisfied with your purchase.
If you are unhappy in any way with your purchase, you can return it for a refund or a replacement, as long as you return it in the same condition as it arrived (original/undamaged packaging and product) and within 30 days of receiving it. We will pay for your return postage on a faulty item as long as you send it using Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery (for EU or International Shipments, you have to use our UPS account, we will provide you with a return label)
Please keep in mind the following:
- Items returned within 14 days but not in their original and undamaged packaging will also incur a -15% charge per package.
- If you return an item that doesn't adhere to our returns procedure or doesn't include a returns form, you may be liable for a £10 administration fee
- Individual items from a bundle can't be returned, refunded or exchanged. If you want a refund/credit/exchange for a bundle, all items must be returned to us.

- The goods and packaging are undamaged
IMPORTANT: We need to be able to identify an item with your order. We can only do this if you follow our returns process. Please do not send us items back that do not follow this process as they cannot be identified properly and will not be replaced or refunded.
What delivery method do I need to use when returning an item?
You must send the goods back to us via Royal Mail 2nd class recorded delivery. Refunds on faulty items returned are reimbursed within 5 working days.
Can I return just one item from multiple purchases?
Yes. Once you start the returns process you will go to a page that will allow you to choose which items you want to be replaced or refunded.
Returning faulty goods
If your item is faulty, you need to follow the returns policy, where you will be able to state that it’s faulty. The product will then arrive at our warehouse for testing.
If your purchase is not within 14 days
You can still exchange your item for a different product or for credit to use on the Voltacon Solar or Ledison-led-lights.co.uk websites (-15% from the credit amount).
Returns outside of the 14-day period do not qualify for the free returns policy.
Returning an item within the warranty
If you have a warranty and want to return a faulty item, you just need to follow our standard returns process. When we receive your item, we will then check that it’s within warranty and for any faults before arranging a replacement.
