Description
xVictron MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single unit, designed for 12V battery systems requiring 3000VA of continuous AC output at 230V. It is suited to off-grid installations, marine and vehicle applications, and backup power systems where a reliable, programmable inverter charger is required.
Key Features
- 3000VA continuous inverter output with a 6000W peak surge capacity, suitable for motor start loads and high-demand appliances.
- 120A battery charger with adaptive charge algorithm, automatically adjusting charge current based on battery condition and temperature.
- PowerControl function limits the total AC input current draw, preventing generator or shore power overload by supplementing from the battery when needed.
- PowerAssist function boosts available shore or generator power with battery power during peak demand, allowing a smaller AC source to run larger loads.
- VE.Bus communication interface enables parallel and three-phase configuration, remote monitoring, and integration with Victron GX devices and the VictronConnect app.
- Transfer switch with a typical switchover time of less than 20 milliseconds, fast enough for most computers and sensitive electronics.
- Programmable relay for generator start, alarm output, or other custom functions via VEConfigure software.
- Compatible with a wide range of battery chemistries including lead-acid (flooded, gel, AGM) and lithium-ion via configurable charge profiles.
Product Overview
The MultiPlus combines a true sine wave inverter with a multi-stage battery charger. The inverter section produces a clean 230V AC sine wave output from a 12V DC battery bank, making it suitable for powering standard mains appliances. The 3000VA rating reflects continuous output capacity; the unit can handle short-term surge loads up to 6000W, which is relevant for inductive loads such as pumps, compressors and air conditioning units.
The 120A charger uses Victron's adaptive four-stage algorithm (bulk, absorption, float, storage) and can be configured for different battery types and capacities. PowerControl and PowerAssist are particularly useful in installations where the available AC supply is limited, such as a 50A shore power connection on a boat or a small generator on a remote site. The unit monitors incoming AC current and automatically draws from the battery to make up any shortfall, keeping the AC source within its rated limit.
VE.Bus connectivity is central to the MultiPlus's flexibility. Up to six units can be operated in parallel for increased capacity, or configured in split or three-phase arrangements. Integration with Victron GX devices (such as the Cerbo GX) enables full system monitoring via the VRM portal. Configuration and firmware updates are handled through VEConfigure and VictronConnect, giving installers precise control over charge parameters, input current limits, and relay behaviour.

Applications
- Off-grid residential and cabin installations with 12V battery banks requiring mains-voltage AC output.
- Marine vessels using shore power or generator input, where PowerControl prevents tripping the shore supply breaker.
- Motorhomes and large vehicle conversions needing a high-capacity inverter charger with generator compatibility.
- Backup power systems for critical loads such as communications equipment, medical devices, or refrigeration.
- Parallel multi-unit installations where higher output capacity is required beyond a single unit's rating.
- Hybrid solar systems when paired with a Victron MPPT charge controller and GX monitoring device.

Installation Notes
Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited installer with experience in DC battery systems and AC wiring. The MultiPlus operates at 12V DC with high current draw at full load; appropriately rated DC cabling, fusing, and battery connections are essential. For any grid-connected or generator-connected application, compliance with local wiring regulations (including BS 7671 in the UK) is required. Configuration via VEConfigure or VictronConnect is recommended before commissioning to set correct battery type, charge current limits, and input current thresholds. If integrating with a solar PV system connected to the grid, consult your DNO regarding G98 or G99 notification requirements.
