Description
xVictron MultiPlus 24/3000/70-16 230V VE.Bus Inverter Charger
The Victron MultiPlus 24/3000/70-16 is a combined inverter and battery charger in a single unit, designed for 24V battery systems with a 3000VA inverter output and 70A charging capacity. It is suited to off-grid installations, marine and vehicle applications, and backup power systems where reliable AC output and efficient battery charging are required from one compact device.
Key Features
- 3000VA continuous inverter output with a 230V AC sine wave, suitable for sensitive loads and standard appliances.
- 70A battery charger with adaptive charge algorithm, automatically adjusting to battery condition and type.
- 16A AC transfer switch allows connection to shore power or a generator, with near-instant switchover to inverter when mains fails.
- PowerControl function limits the total current drawn from shore or generator supply, preventing overload of the AC source.
- PowerAssist function supplements shore or generator power with battery power during peak demand, allowing a smaller AC source to be used.
- VE.Bus communication interface enables system integration, remote monitoring, and parallel or three-phase configuration with additional units.
- Configurable via VE.Bus Smart Dongle or MK3-USB interface, with support for Victron GX devices and VRM portal monitoring.
- Built-in battery temperature and voltage sensing for accurate charge management.
Product Overview
The MultiPlus 24/3000/70-16 combines a full-featured sine wave inverter with a high-current multi-stage battery charger. The 3000VA output handles continuous loads up to approximately 2400W, with a short-term peak capacity for motor start-up and inrush currents. The 70A charger is capable of bulk, absorption and float charging, and the adaptive algorithm learns from previous charge cycles to optimise performance over time. The unit accepts a 24V nominal battery bank and is compatible with lead-acid (AGM, gel, flooded) and lithium battery chemistries when configured correctly.
The 16A AC input transfer switch connects the unit to a shore power or generator supply. When that supply is present and within tolerance, loads are fed directly from the AC input and the charger runs simultaneously. If the AC input fails or falls outside acceptable limits, the MultiPlus switches to inverter mode in under 20 milliseconds, which is fast enough to keep most computers and sensitive equipment running without interruption. PowerControl prevents the combined load of the charger and connected appliances from exceeding the rated input current, and PowerAssist allows the battery to contribute during demand spikes.
VE.Bus is Victron's communication protocol for system-level integration. Multiple MultiPlus units can be connected in parallel to increase output current, or configured for split-phase or three-phase operation. The unit integrates with Victron GX devices (such as the Cerbo GX) for full system monitoring and control via the VRM online portal. Configuration of charge parameters, input current limits, and operating modes is done through the VEConfigure software using an MK3-USB interface.

- Victron MultiPlus 24/3000/70-16 230V VE.Bus inverter charger unit
Installation Notes
The MultiPlus 24/3000/70-16 must be installed by a qualified electrician familiar with DC battery systems and AC wiring. Correct fusing and cable sizing on the 24V DC side is critical given the high charge and inverter currents involved. If the unit is being connected to a generator or shore supply, the AC input wiring must comply with BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). For lithium battery installations, charge parameters must be configured correctly via VEConfigure before commissioning. This unit is not certified for grid-tied export to the public electricity network and should not be connected to the grid supply without appropriate isolation and compliance measures. An MK3-USB interface or VE.Bus Smart Dongle is required for configuration and is sold separately.
