Description
xVictron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr VE.Can Solar Charge Controller
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr VE.Can is a solar charge controller rated for a 150V input and 70A charge current, designed for professional off-grid and battery-based solar installations. It combines built-in Bluetooth, VE.Can network connectivity, and Victron's MPPT algorithm to maximise energy harvest and integrate cleanly into larger system architectures.
Key Features
- 150V maximum PV open-circuit voltage with 70A maximum charge current output.
- Built-in Bluetooth allows direct configuration and monitoring via the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android, without additional hardware.
- VE.Can port enables integration with Victron GX devices, other VE.Can-compatible components, and system-wide monitoring via Venus OS or Victron Remote Management (VRM).
- Tr (screw terminal) variant provides robust wiring connections suited to permanent, fixed installations.
- Automatic battery voltage detection for 12V, 24V and 48V battery banks.
- Supports lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel, flooded and other battery chemistries with configurable charge algorithms.
- Load output with programmable street lighting and timer functions built in.
- Weighs 3.1 kg, suitable for wall or panel mounting in a variety of installation environments.
Product Overview
The 150/70 rating means this controller can accept PV arrays with an open-circuit voltage up to 150V and deliver up to 70A of charge current to the battery bank. In practice, this allows for series-connected PV strings at higher voltages, which reduces cable losses and supports larger array configurations without requiring parallel wiring. The MPPT algorithm continuously tracks the maximum power point of the array, which is particularly valuable when irradiance or temperature conditions are changing throughout the day.
The VE.Can interface is the key differentiator of this model over standard SmartSolar units. It allows the controller to communicate directly with Victron GX devices (such as the Cerbo GX) over a CAN bus network, enabling full system integration, data logging, and remote monitoring via the VRM portal. Multiple VE.Can devices can be networked together, making this controller well suited to larger off-grid systems, marine installations, and commercial battery storage projects where centralised monitoring is required.
Bluetooth is built in as standard, so initial commissioning and day-to-day monitoring can be done via VictronConnect without needing a separate dongle or interface cable. Charge profiles are fully configurable, including absorption voltage, float voltage, equalisation, and temperature compensation when used with a compatible battery temperature sensor.

What Is Included
- 1x Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-Tr VE.Can charge controller
Installation Notes
This controller accepts PV input up to 150V open-circuit, which requires careful array design to ensure voltage does not exceed this limit under cold-temperature conditions. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited solar installer familiar with DC system design and Victron equipment. VE.Can wiring requires correct termination resistors at each end of the bus. For off-grid systems connected to a generator or grid-tied hybrid setup, ensure all components are configured and commissioned by a competent person.
