Description
xVictron SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can Solar Charge Controller
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/100-Tr VE.Can is a high-capacity solar charge controller designed for large off-grid, marine and commercial installations. It accepts a maximum PV open-circuit voltage of 250V and delivers up to 100A of charge current, making it suitable for substantial battery banks and high-power solar arrays. Built-in Bluetooth and VE.Can connectivity allow integration into Victron's monitoring and control ecosystem without additional hardware.
Key Features
- Maximum PV input voltage of 250V open-circuit, supporting large series-connected panel strings.
- 100A maximum charge current, suitable for charging 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V battery banks.
- VE.Can port enables direct integration with Victron GX devices, Lynx systems and other CAN-bus compatible equipment.
- Built-in Bluetooth for configuration and monitoring via the VictronConnect app on iOS and Android.
- True MPPT algorithm with rapid tracking, maintaining high conversion efficiency across varying irradiance conditions.
- Screw terminal (Tr) design for straightforward, secure cable connections in fixed installations.
- Supports lithium-ion, AGM, gel, flooded and other battery chemistries with configurable charge profiles.
- Load output functionality for direct connection of DC loads with programmable control options.
Product Overview
The 250/100 rating means this controller can handle PV arrays with an open-circuit voltage up to 250V, which allows longer panel strings in series before parallel combiners are needed. At 100A output, it can deliver up to 1.2kW into a 12V bank, 2.4kW into 24V, or 4.8kW into a 48V system. For most professional installations, a 48V battery bank paired with this controller is the practical choice, as it maximises the usable power from the array while keeping cable losses manageable.
The VE.Can interface is the key differentiator for system integrators. It allows the controller to communicate directly with Victron GX devices (Cerbo GX, Venus GX and others), enabling full remote monitoring, data logging and system-level control via the VRM portal. Multiple VE.Can devices can be networked together on the same bus, which is particularly useful in larger installations where several charge controllers or other Victron components operate in parallel. The Tr (screw terminal) variant suits permanent, fixed wiring in enclosures or distribution boards.
Configuration is handled through the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth, covering battery type, absorption and float voltages, temperature compensation, load output behaviour and more. No additional interface cable is required for initial setup. For ongoing monitoring in a managed system, the VE.Can connection to a GX device provides continuous data without relying on a mobile device being present.

Installation Notes
This controller operates at PV voltages up to 250V DC, which is a hazardous voltage level. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician or accredited solar installer. Ensure PV string voltage does not exceed 250V under any temperature conditions, including cold-weather open-circuit scenarios. Battery and PV cabling must be appropriately rated for the currents involved. Where this controller forms part of a grid-connected or hybrid system, relevant G98 or G99 notification requirements may apply depending on the overall system configuration. Consult the Victron installation manual and comply with all applicable local wiring regulations.
